Our Story to tell the truth

Freedom of the press and humanity are the foundation of Epoch Times as almost all world-wide Chinese media are controlled or infiltrated by Chinese Communist Party (CCP); our beginnings hailed from a great need to provide uncensored news to a people immersed in propaganda and censorship in China.

Having witnessed events like Tiananmen Square and the persecution of the spiritual group Falun Gong, and at a great risk to themselves and their loved ones, a group of Chinese-Americans started publishing Epoch Times in the Chinese language in the U.S. Some reporters in China were jailed, and some suffered severe torture.

In 2003, The Epoch Times was the first media outlet in the world to report the SARS outbreak in China while the CCP denied the existence of the disease.

In March 2006, The Epoch Times was the first to expose the truth behind the Chinese Communist Party’s heinous practice of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners in China.

The Epoch Times has provided comprehensive coverage of the various movements by the people of Hong Kong to resist the Chinese Communist Party’s suppression of Hong Kong’s autonomy and freedoms, including opposition to the draconian Article 23 legislation and the umbrella movement.

The CCP has been trying to silence The Epoch Times for years. For instance, Four individuals broke into the print shop of the Hong Kong edition of The Epoch Times and set a fire on Nov 19, 2019, which is the fourth attack on The Epoch Times’ print shop in Hong Kong.

Our 2004 editorial series “ Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” profoundly exposed the true nature of the Chinese Communist Party, inspiring a grassroots movement for Chinese people to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations. More than 460 million people have quit as of April 2026.

Since 2017, The Epoch Times has uncovered the true agenda behind communism, publishing a series of editorials including “The Ultimate Goal of Communism” and “How the Specter of Communism Is Ruling Our World” — that systematically expose the dangers of communism and its subversive infiltration in western countries to this day.

The first English edition of The Epoch Times launched online in 2003 followed by the first print edition in 2004. Our beginnings have instilled in Epoch Times staff an unwavering commitment to objective reporting and socially responsible business practices, as well as respect for human rights and freedom.
